ASR Cosmos Continue Spring League

On Saturday April 2 the Cosmos opened their Spring League season.  Cosmos began with Napa Atletico, winning the game 7-1.  Two goals from Erasmo Ordonez,  one from Cesar Nicasio, one from Erik Barrera, one from Ryan Dieter, one from Cristhian Purdente and one from Ivan Mojica.  Marcos Valencia had a solid game in goal, only giving away one goal. 

On Saturday April 16 the Cosmos continued their Spring League season.  The Cosmos played ASR Chelsea.  The Cosmos were victorious once again, winning the game 5-0  The Cosmos will play again on Sunday April 17 at Cook Middle School at 9am.  Please come and support the boys.

On Sunday April 17 the Cosmos competed against Laguna FC Juventus.  The Cosmos got off to a slow start, Ryan Dieter had several early opportunities that were missed but in the 15th minute Ronnie Shimizu was able to find the back of the net.  After the goal by Ronnie, things started to open up and the Cosmos cruised to a 6-0 win over Laguna.  The Cosmos will host SCA Red next Saturday at Cook at 10am.  Please come and support the boys.

On Saturday April 23 the Cosmos competed against SCA Red.   The Cosmos scored four goals in the first half and six goals in the second half.  With stellar defense from Christopher Purdente, Ronnie Shimizu, Cesar Nicasio and Erasmo Ordonez, the Cosmos went on to win their fourth straight league game.  

On Saturday May 14, after a long two week break with no Spring League games, the Cosmos competed against Napa Sport Soccer Mexico Jrs. 2001.  The first half was dominated by the Cosmos, however, they Cosmos found themselves down 1-0 at halftime.  In the second half the Cosmos were able to rally together, Erik Barrera led the way with 2 free kick goals to seal the game at the very end.  It was a great win for the new team of Atletico SR.  The Cosmos will play Sunday May 15 at Cook vs. Santa Rosa United.  Please come and support the boys. 

Sunday May 15 the ASR Cosmos took on SRU Liverpool.  The Cosmos were able to get off to an early start with a 5-0 first half score.  The boys played fantastic, organized and well played soccer throughout the entire match.  The boys were able to finish 5 more goals and only allow two goals in the second half.  The Cosmos finished with a 10-2 victory over Santa Rosa United.  The boys will go away next weekend for the Ajax Jr. Green Invitational in Modesto. 

 

Cosmos Champions at Azzuri Classic

On Saturday July 30 the ASR Cosmos traveled to San Ramon to compete in the Azzuri Classic.  The weekend got started off to a fast start with ASR Cosmos winning their first game against EDYSL IMPACT 10-2 with goals from Erik Barrera, Ivan Mojica, Ryan Dieter, Cristian Purdente and Zach Perez.  Later in the afternoon the Cosmos took on a strong team from Vallejo and ended up defeating them 7-2 with goals from Erik Barrera, Ivan Mojica, Ryan Dieter and Zach Perez.  The Cosmos then faced a talented San Ramon Azzuri boys team the following morning.  The game was dominated by the Cosmos and the final score was 6-1 with goals from Erik Barrera, Ryan Dieter and Miguel Vigil.  The Cosmos advanced to the Final and played against Vallejo Zorritos once again.  This time the game was much closer as Vallejo packed the box in with six players.  The game went down to the wire.  Ryan Dieter got the Cosmos off to their first lead with a goal from a cross from Cesar Nicasio.  In the second half the game was still 1-0 as Ryan got a through ball from Erik Barrera.  Ryan chased the ball down shot on goal but the goal keeper was able to save it, Ryan continued to chase the ball down and ended up finishing the ball in the left Upper V.  After that goal was scored the Zorritos put the ball on the center mark and came back and scored on the assuming kick off.  Marcos Valencia made two huge saves for the Cosmos to keep the score 2-1 and the Cosmos won the championship.  Special thanks to all the parents who supported the team and came to cheer the boys on.  Great job boys. 

ASR Cosmos Win Novato Classic

On August 6 and 7 the ASR Cosmos competed in the Novato Classic.  On Saturday the Cosmos played against Tahuchi FC and were successful, winning the game 9-0.  In the second game the Cosmos played a very aggresive Empire Tornadoes, who packed the box in and kept the game close.  The Cosmos hit the post four times before Erik Barrera was able to finish a far post shot from 20 yards out.  The game ended in a 1-0 win and the Cosmos had to then play an early Sunday morning Quarterfinal against Novato White.  On Sunday morning the Cosmos played against Novato White. The game was won 6-0 and that moved the Cosmos into a Semi-Final match versus Los Diablos from Laguna Soccer Club.  The Cosmos played a great Semi-Final game with three goals from Erik Barrera and one goal from Ryan Dieter.  The Cosmos won 4-1 and advanced to the Finals to face the home team, Novato United.  The game was played at 4:50pm, the Cosmos had already played two games while Novato only had played one.  The Cosmos came out dominate against the Novato team with an early goal from Cristian Purdente.  The game was close for the remaining time of the game until Zach Perez recieved a pass from Ivan Mojica who swung the ball from Ronnie Shimizu.  The ball was placed on the far post and scored!!  The game ended 2-0 for ASR Cosmos as the Champions. 

ASR Cosmos Finalists at Mustang Stampede

Friday August 19 the ASR Cosmos traveled to Danville, Ca to compete in the Stampede Classic.  The Cosmos played a very strong team from Sacramento, FC Sporting Battle.  The boys came out flat and within 10 minutes the game was 4-0.  But after the boys got into a ryhthm the boys made it interesting.  Erik Barrera recieved a through ball from Cristian Purdente and he was able to finish it near post past the FC Sporting keeper. Then Ivan Mojica was taken down in the box and awarded a PK.  Erik Barrera stepped up and blasted it past the keeper.  The game was 4-2 and the momentum started to swing towards the Cosmos side.  In the second half, Ivan Mojica played a through ball to Erik Barrera who was taken down in the box and a red card was given along with another PK.  Erik Barrera finished the PK again and made it 4-3.  With five minutes left, Erik hit the post from 25 yards out off a free kick and the game ended in a 4-3 loss.  The Cosmos learned a lot from this game and knew they wouldn't let this happen again.  On Saturday morning the Cosmos played Mustang Boca Jrs. and were able to win 3-1.  Later that day, the Cosmos played a team from Diablo FC.  The Cosmos needed a 3-0 win in order to advance, Coach Dold just asked his players to go out and play, have fun and not to worry about the score.  The Cosmos were able to win 3-0 with a last minute goal from Erik Barrera.  On Sunday morning, the Cosmos took on rival Ajax Elite in a Semi Final.  The Cosmos had lost to Ajax 3-0 and 3-2 in April at Ajax Jr. Green Invitational.  The Cosmos played a solid game with many chances from both sides.  In the last two minutes Ivan Mojica got a through ball from Ryan Dieter and was able to finish the ball in the back of the net to push the Cosmos through to the Final.  The 3rd Final game in a row.  In the Final against FC Sporting the Cosmos came out fast.  Scoring an early goal from Erik Barrera and taking a 1-0 lead.  Minutes later, Erik stole the ball from a defender and shot far post, missing but defintely scaring FC Sporting.  Minutes before the first half ended, FC Sporting tied the game up from a shot outside the box.  The Cosmos were tired, legs were going fast and in the end the game was won by FC Sporting Battle 3-1.  The Cosmos finished second in the tournament.  Thanks to all the parents who supported the boys!! We are moving in the right direction!!

Cosmos Open Up Fall League!

The Cosmos had a successful summer tournament season.  With a record of 13-3-1, two Championships at Azzuri Summer Classic and Novato Summer Classic, three finalists at Ajax Jr. Invitational, Mustang and SRU Academy Cup.  The Cosmos continued their sucessful campaign in Fall League, playing in the GOLD level division, Cosmos played against a tough team from Healdsburg.  Healdsburg scored first with a shot from half field which bounced over Marcos Valencia's head and into the goal.  Shortly after, the Cosmos were able to connect passes together and put three goals in the back of the net before halftime.  Erik Barrera scored first with a pass from Ryan Dieter, the second goal came from Erik Barrera again, with a great cross from Zach Perez and the third goal came from Erik Barrera who was played a through ball and finished far post.  In the second half, Erik Barrera was able to score again, along with Brandon Andrade and two more goals from Zach Perez.  The game ended in a 7-1 victory for the Cosmos.  The Cosmos will face Napa Indians October 1st .  Good Luck!!

ASR Cosmos Finish First in Bracket S for State Cup

Atletico Santa Rosa Cosmos finished first in their bracket for NORCAL State Cup.  They beat Napa Barcelona 3-1, Monticlair 3-0 and Tecos Hayward 6-4.  ASR Cosmos will now play a game in the beginning of November to start their second round and then play in Manteca in December to finsih their second round of play.

Atletico Santa Rosa Cosmos finished their successful season of 2011 on a high note.  They played against a tough team from SCC Revolution, unfortunely the team lost 3-2 but the boys played well.  The Cosmos will continue to train during the off season at Elsie Allen High school during the month of December and January.  The boys will be at Elsie Allen on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5pm-7pm.  Any players interested in playing soccer for a class I competitive team should come out and play with the team.  Any questions please feel free to contact Matt Dold at 707 481-8956
